Questions people ask

Buying

Do I need an account?

No. You can buy without one. To look at your order afterwards, put in your order number and the email address you used, and we send a code to that address.

Why do you send a code instead of just showing me my order?

Because an order number is printed on a receipt and read out over the phone. If it were enough on its own, anybody who saw one could read somebody else's order.

When will I know the delivery charge?

Delivery is R150 for your order, however many places it is posted from. If you buy from three businesses in three different places, that is three parcels and still one R150. Delivery is free once your order comes to R1,500 or more. For now, KWAC checks the door-to-door courier price after you submit your order. We hold the items for up to 48 hours while staff approves the quote. You see the full amount before paying; after approval you have two hours to pay.

Is anything added after I pay?

No. The approved total on your order page is the whole amount before payment begins.

If something goes wrong

What if it arrives broken, or is not what I expected?

We refund it in full and pay to get it back. You do not deal with the child or their family about it: you deal with KWAC.

Can I change my mind?

Yes, within seven days of receiving it. You send it back at your own cost, and we refund what you paid for the item.

Who do I talk to?

Open your order and tell us from there, so we can see what you mean.

The children

Can I message the child who made this?

Not directly. Messages go to the adult who runs the business with them, and anything a child does see has been read by a grown-up first. It is not that we think you would say anything wrong; it is that a shop cannot tell in advance who is writing.

Why is there a drawing instead of a photograph?

Because a photograph of a child's face on a public shop is not something we are willing to publish, whatever anybody consents to. Where a child appears, an illustrator draws them, and the photograph the drawing was made from is deleted afterwards.

How old are the children?

Whether a particular child may take part is a decision KWAC makes about that child, with their guardian, under a policy a lawyer has reviewed. It is not a number the site checks.

Taking part

My child wants to sell something. How do we start?

A guardian starts it, not a child. You will be asked for the child's details, for proof that you are the adult responsible for them, and for your consent to specific things being shown publicly. KWAC reviews all of it before anything can be sold.

Who sets the price?

The child does. A guardian either approves it or sends it back saying why, so the child works out the answer rather than being handed one.
